Frequently asked
Australia questions, answered straight.
Has the Genuine Student (GS) requirement replaced the GTE?+
Yes — the Genuine Student requirement replaced the Genuine Temporary Entrant test in March 2024 and is now the central assessment in the visa decision. Answers must be specific to your course, city, and career plan.
Is regional study in Australia worth it?+
For long-term migration goals, yes. Regional study unlocks an extra year on the 485 visa (up to 4 years total in remote areas) and 5 bonus PR points. Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, and Canberra count as regional under the current DHA definition.
How much bank balance do I need for an Australian student visa?+
AUD 24,505 in living costs (2024 DHA rule) plus one year of tuition, held for 3 months prior to application. Education loans with sanction letters are accepted.
Can I bring my spouse on an Australian student visa?+
Yes — spouses of Masters by Coursework and higher can apply for a Subclass 500 dependant visa with full work rights. Bachelor and Diploma students face tighter conditions.
What is the 485 Graduate Visa and who qualifies?+
The Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa gives 2–4 years of post-study work after a CRICOS-registered degree of at least 2 academic years. Extensions apply for regional study and shortage-list occupations.
Which Australian occupations lead to permanent residency?+
Nursing, secondary teaching (STEM/languages), civil/mechanical/electrical engineering, IT (cybersecurity, software), and social work are on the Core Skills Occupation List with the fastest PR outcomes.
How long does an Australian student visa take?+
Typical processing is 4–8 weeks. High-risk assessment level countries and courses under the ESOS list take longer. We submit with full evidence bundles to avoid RFI delays.
